MONTANA Department of Transportation US 93 WEST OF WHITEFISH RECONSTRUCTION The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) announces plans for the upcoming US 93 West of Whitefish project. This road reconstruction project will occur on US Highway 93 (US 93) in Whitefish, starting near the intersection with Mountainside Drive and continuing west for approximately 3 miles, ending just past Livermore Flats. Tree clearing is necessary for utility relocation and highway reconstruction. For the overall project, tree clearing needs to be completed in two separate phases. LTL Enterprises has finished the clearing required for utility relocations. Early this year, the clearing necessary for the highway construction will begin. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, depending on weather and other unforeseen factors. Planned safety enhancements for this project include a new driving surface, designated turn lanes, guardrail, wider shoulders, new signage, and a separated shared-use path with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant handrails and detectable warning devices. This important work will enhance roadway safety features and improve non- motorized accessibility in Whitefish. The goal of this project is to extend the service life of this section of US 93 so that it will continue to serve the community for years to come.
