KNIFE RIVER AN MOU RESOURCES COMPANY BIG MONTANA Department of Transportation MOUNTAIN ROAD PAVEMENT PRESERVATION The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner Knife River announce a pavement preservation project north of Whitefish on Big Mountain Road. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of the roadway. Initial work began on August 7 and will extend through Labor Day. Work will pause for the winter, resuming in the summer of 2024. Two small portions of pavement, one south of Ptarmigan Road and the other, just east of Ptarmigan Road, will be dug out and replaced this year. Next summer, a pavement overlay will occur on a large portion of Big Mountain Road from Smith Drive to north of Glades Drive. More details will be provided as 2024 work approaches.
