Notification of DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATONReview Period 30-Day Public Review Period US 2 Rest Area Siting Study The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to invite members of the public to review draft reports for the US 2 Rest Area Siting Study and provide comment. MDT has completed initial efforts to assess needs and opportunities for new safety rest area sites along the US Highway 2 corridor. The study corridor includes the length of US 2 extending from a western endpoint at the Troy Safety Rest Area to an eastern endpoint at the Culbertson Safety Rest Area. Per guidance outlined in the Montana Rest Area Plan, MDT strives to provide stopping opportunities at approximately one-hour intervals. For this study MDT defined six study segments spanning the corridor where a new safety rest area would provide approximately one-hour spacing relative to urban areas with a minimum population of 5,000. The study recommends investment in three study segments, although factors such as funding, right of-way, municipal service connection, changes in corridor stopping opportunities in communities, and other MDT safety rest area needs throughout the state may alter the priority order in which MDT addresses improvements. The draft reports may be accessed online at https://www.mdt.mt.govpubinvolve/us2restarea/ documents.shtml The public review period will begin on May 22, 2019, and extend through June 22, 2019 Community participation is a very important part of the process and the public is encouraged to provide comments. MDT attempts to provide accommodations for any known disability that may interfere with a person's participation in any service, program or activity of our department. Alternative accessible formats of study information will be provided upon request by contacting Alice Flesch, Human Resources and Occupational Safety Division, P.O.
