PAID ADVERTISEMENT SHORE forms Strategic Alliance SHORE has been working with community leaders from around the lake since June 20th 2023, once it was known that Flathead Lake would be drawn down by more than two feet by Energy Keepers. SHORE has existed for more than 20 years. We have had a good relationship with PPL (the former operators for Kerr Dam), Max Baucus, the late Conrad Burns, Dennis Rehberg, and the Bureau of Reclamation. These folks, more than once, interceded on our behalf to keep the lake within a foot of full pool (2893) during drought conditions. Even the drought management plan spelled out what had to be done to protect everyone's interest. This plan, by law, should have been adopted years ago. But it never got done. SHORE and the National Organization To Save Flathead Lake (NOTSFL) last week decided to work together to achieve two goals. 1. To draft language that would amend the license that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has with Energy Keepers. 2. To write a federal bill that would make it mandatory to keep the lake within a foot of full pool during drought conditions. Both of these measure are ready to move forward. We have worked with members of the Montana Delegation and they are supportive. All three Lake County commissioners are in agreement that something has to be done. This is a Flathead valley problem, but can only be resolved by the Federal Government. It is certainly a non-partisan issue. It wouldn't hurt if the State were on board. Though SHORE and NOTSFL won't always be in sync, we are in agreement to resolve this issue once and for all! There are several organizations around the lake working towards this same goal as well as their own issues. My suggestion would be to be a part of the alliance where it fits within your organization. The National Organization to Save Flathead Lake will take the leadership role in this endeavor. WE NEED TO SUSTAIN OUR QUALITY OF LIFE!
