BUREAU OF RECLAMATION The Bureau of Reclamation continues to conduct modernization work on top of Hungry Horse Dam in Montana. Reclamation anticipates resuming the replacement of the gantry crane in April through May 2023, weather permitting. In accordance with 43 CFR Part 423.12(a), Reclamation is announcing intermediate temporary closures on Hungry Horse Dam Road on top of the dam. Both lanes of traffic will remain open except when cranes are loading and unloading the trucks. During that time, both lanes will be closed for approximately 30 minutes, or for as long as required to safely load or unload crane components. During the temporary closure, all vehicles will be stopped on the roadway prior to entering onto the dam by the flaggers and/or portable traffic lights. Traffic will not be stopped on the dam for any road closures. A full-day road closure is needed to conduct the final testing of the new gantry crane. Testing is anticipated to take place in late April to early May. For more information, contact Bill Dykes, field office manager at 406-387-5241 ext. 313.
