Wild West Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling is a family business that is owned and operated by Troy Hamland. It was founded by Lars Hamland nearly 40 years ago and he built the company based on quality service, honesty, and excellence. It originally was a sewer and drain service company and over the years revolved into a plumbing and HVAC company. Wild West set the standard in the flathead years ago to show up in uniforms, wear shoe covers, put down floor protection, and focus on customer satisfaction. My dad used to say "we are in the people business which happens to be in Plumbing" and I've always stuck to that. We specialize in all residential plumbing, drain/sewer service, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation. What were the main challenges you faced at the beginning of the year and how did you overcome them? There are a lot of challenges in operating any kind of business. A major challenge was finding knowledgeable skilled tradesmen. Let's face it, any skilled tradesmen is in high demand and can work for anyone they choose, so my solution was to create a positive work environment, offer competitive wages and provide great benefits. We invest in training and development to improve job satisfaction and want to keep everyone happy. We are very grateful for our staff and always looking for great people to join our team. Can you describe a specific project or initiative that significantly contributed to your success this year? Project Wild West rebrand. Since the 80s Wild West has only seen 3 different brands and since Lars has retired it was only WILD PLUMBING HEATING COOLING appropriate to give the company a fresh brand identity. With the flathead valley growing at a rapid pace, I knew that in order to standout in a crowded market it was necessary. This last year we wrapped trucks, new signage, new uniforms, and a whole new identity which has attributed to this last year's success. What was the most surprising or unexpected win you had this last year? With hard work and dedication throughout our organization it was no surprise that we were successful last year. It was an honor to get #1 in HVAC and #3 in Plumbing in the Best of the Flathead, so I'd say that was a heck of a win! Can you share a fun or memorable moment that happened in the office or field? Being in the home service business and dealing with all kinds of different people and places there is never a dull moment. I hear some interesting stories about the things the crew experiences daily. I've always enjoyed the home service industry because every day is something different and you never know what you're going to run into. Which new product or service are you most proud to launch this year? Customer communication, new software, and paperless technology. We implemented a new software program that allows online chatting, texting technicians picture with bio upon dispatch, online scheduling, and other forms of paperless technology. It's been a challenge adapting to modern technology, but it's been crucial to our success within our business and for our valued clients.
