Over the past two years, donations from 648 individuals and 89 organizations have enabled us to provide 248 nights of service and shelter 312 individuals. When the shelter first opens each evening, there is a visible process in which individuals begin to decompress from being out in the cold. There seems to be a peace that settles inside each person and across the entire room. Through pure exhaustion, some decide to go to sleep right away. Others seek out conversation from staff or a volunteer, perhaps their first conversation of the day. In the quiet of the overnight hours, looking across the large open space of individuals sleeping soundly, it is very clear: The Flathead Warming Center is filing a critical need in our community. The homeless are among us not to test our patience, but to test our humanity. Our community has passed this test. Our doors will be open from 4pm- 7pm for interactive tours, food, and a 5:30pm Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. 889 North Meridian Rd www.flatheadwarmingcenter.org Thank You Gina, The Flathead Warming Center Good Neighbor 2021 Award is presented to Gina Beneshl Consultant Gina Benesh has 20 years of experience as a non-profit fundraising executive with extensive focus on capital campaigns. Amazed that in Kalispell's cold climate there was not a warming center already, Gina volunteered to lead the board in raising $750,000 to acquire and renovate their new location. The conditions were right for success but with concerns of the pandemic growing, the group needed to work quickly. The goal was defined, pursued, and achieved in four months. "Campaigns are hard work." says Gina, "a lot has to go right for donors to invest. I attribute having the boards' full focus and complete trust in me to the success, not just in achieving the goal but doing so in record time." "Many in our community, for years to come, will be warm and safe because of Gina's wisdom, passion, and concem for others in need. Gina is an example to us all in how to be a good neighbor!"
