BALLOT COUNTING. and COUNTY CANVASS Notice is hereby given that on May 6th, 2025, an all-mail election will be held in Flathead County for the Special Purpose and School District Elections. Ballots must be returned to the Flathead County Election Office, 290B N Main, Kalispell, MT 59901, either in person or by mail. Ballots must be received by 8:00pm on Election Day. The Flathead County Election Office is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday, and from 7:00am to 8:00pm, on Election Day. May 6th, 2025. You may also drop your ballot off at the following school district locations: Flathead High School: 644 4th Ave W., Kalispell, MT 59901; Glacier High School: 375 Wolfpack Way, Kalispell, MT 59901; Whitefish School District Office: 600 E. 2nd Street, Whitefish, MT 59937; Deer Park School: 2105 Middle Road, Columbia Falls, MT 59912; Cayuse Prairie School: 897 Lake Blaine Rd., Kalispell, MT 59901; and, Smith Valley School District Office: 2901 Hwy 2 W, Kalispell, MT 59901. Electors will consider the following trustee races and propositions at said election: Bigfork Fire District Trustee (2) 3-year terms; Cayuse Prairie School District Trustee (1) 3-year term; Deer Park School District Trustee (1) 3-year term; Smith Valley School District Trustee (2) 3-year terms; West Valley Volunteer Fire District Mill Levy: Shall the qualified voters of the West Valley Volunteer Fire District authorize the Flathead County Commissioners to henceforth permanently authorize an additional 10 mills, sufficient to raise approximately $262,825.57 for the purpose of improving stations, replacing equipment, and hiring staff, with said mills to be levied against all West Valley Volunteer Fire District taxable property? The property tax impact of the levy vote for a home valued at $100,000 would increase by $13.50 per year. For a home valued at $300,000, property taxes would increase by $40.50 per year, and for a home valued at $600,000, property taxes would increase by $81.00 per year. This increase will not affect taxation by other governmental agencies and is only for Fire District purposes. Flathead High School District General Fund Levy: Shall the Flathead High School District be authorized to levy an increase in local taxes to support the general fund in the amount of Two Million Nine Hundred Sixty-Seven Thousand Seven Hundred Fifty-Seven dollars and Sixty-Two cents ($2,967,757.62), which is approximately 12.52 mills, for the purpose of instruction and operation of the high schools? The levy will be an increase to the existing voter-approved levy. Passage of this proposal will result in an annual tax of approximately $16.91 ($1.41 per month) on a home with an assessed property value of $100,000, $33.81 ($2.82 per month) on a home with an assessed property value of $200,000, $50.72 ($4.23 per month) on a home with an assessed property value of $300,000, and $101.43 ($8.45 per month) on a home with an assessed property value of $600,000. The durational limit of the levy is permanent once approved by the voters, assuming the District levies that amount at least once in the next five years. Whitefish High School District Levy: Shall the district be authorized to impose an increase in local taxes to support the general fund in the amount of $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars), which is approximately 0.63 mills for the purpose of operating the Whitefish High School District for the 2025-26 school year? Passage of this proposal will increase taxes annually on a home with a taxable value of $100,000 by approximately $0.86 per year, on a home with a taxable value of $300,000 by approximately $2.57 per year, and on a home with a taxable value of $600,000 by approximately $5.14 per year. An increase in property taxes may lead to an increase in rental costs. The durational limit of the levy is permanent once approved by the voters, assuming the district levies that amount at least once in the next five years. Deer Park School District Bond Measure: Shall the Board of Trustees of School District No. 2 (Deer Park), Flathead County, Montana (the "District") be authorized to sell and issue general obligation bonds of the District in the aggregate principal amount of up to Four Million and No/100 ($4,000,000.00), bearing interest at rates to be determined at the time of the sale, payable semiannually, during a term of not more than twenty-five (25) years, for the purpose of providing funds to pay the costs of designing, constructing, equipping and furnishing improvements to Deer Park School facilities, including demolishing or relocating the existing Quonset hut and teacherage building and constructing on that site a new building to include classrooms, office space, rest rooms, storage, related improvements and costs; and paying costs associated with the sale and issuance of the bonds? If the bond election passes, based on the taxable value of the District, the property taxes on a home with an assessed market value for tax purposes of $100,000 would increase by $81.12 in the first year, of $200,000 would increase by $162.24 in the first year, and of $300,000 would increase by $243.36 in the first year. An increase in property taxes may lead to an increase in rental costs. Ballots will be automatically mailed to all qualified electors on April 18th, 2025. A qualified registered elector who will be absent from the district during the time the election is being conducted may: a) vote in person at the Flathead County Election Office as soon as the ballots are available; b) make a written request, signed by the applicant and addressed to the Flathead County Election Office, that the ballot is mailed to an address other than the address that appears on the registration application. If you miss the regular registration deadline on April 7th, you may still register for the election by appearing in person at the Flathead County Election Office until 12 noon Monday, May 5th, 2025, and from 7:00am until 8:00pm on Election Day.
