Today the welcoming store offers visitors a place to explore unique gifts, discover new interests and recharge. On any given day in downtown Kalispell, someone might be quietly wandering through Wendy's Rainbow Rock Shop, turning a crystal over in their hands and smiling. For owner Wendy Skelton, those moments never get old. "People come in looking for something," she says. "Sometimes they don't even know what it is yet." Inside the cozy shop just off Main Street, shelves shimmer with color-deep purple amethyst, soft rose quartz and polished stones of every shape and size. Candles glow beside tarot decks and singing bowls, creating a calm and inviting space where visitors can slow down and explore. Wendy Skelton For Skelton, the shop reflects a journey years in the making. "This place is filled with all my favorite things," she says. "Everything in here represents part of my story." A Passion Years in the 'Making Originally from Bozeman, Skelton moved to the Flathead Valley with her family in 2000. Like many parents, much of her early life here focused on raising her children. Before the move she had studied massage therapy, but after welcoming her first child she chose to focus on family life instead. Years passed quickly with school events, sports and milestones filling the calendar. After celebrating three high school graduations, Skelton realized she finally had time to explore something for herself again. She returned to a fascination she had quietly carried for years- collecting rocks and crystals. "I've always been drawn to them," she says. Turning Curiosity Into a Shop Over time Skelton began attending rock and gem shows throughout Montana, including events in Bozeman, Hamilton and the Northwest Montana Rock and Gem Show in Kalispell. By 2018 she had built a large collection and began selling stones at shows. When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down those events, Skelton suddenly had inventory but no place to sell. Instead of waiting, she decided to take a leap. Soon a small storefront opened in the historic Ford Block Building in downtown Kalispell. Skelton seized the opportunity and opened Wendy's Rainbow Rock Shop. "The community response was amazing," she says. "People were ready for something positive." A Shop Full of Discovery Today the store features crystals and stones from around the world along with a variety of gifts and handcrafted items. Visitors will find crystal towers and polished spheres, carved shapes like frogs, turtles and mushrooms, and unique pieces highlighting the natural beauty of the stones.
